I realised this week that it feels like my library is 95% white authors with the other 5% being Asian authors (as I’m Asian). I’ve been trying to expand my collection so it has diverse voices and stories. Currently the only books I own by black authors are 2 books by Candice-Carty Williams (Queenie and People Person), my copy of White Yeeth from high school, Native Son and Beloved. Native Son is one of my top 20 books, its an incredible read that I related to.
Not after any particular genre although I am drawn to protagonists with some form of childhood/past trauma or one’s that are sociologically charged.
