I used to read a lot before my undergrad started and have been in a slump since it started. I’ve recently realised I was obsessed with fantasy, mythology and romance fiction, and never really gave any other genres a chance. The only 2 non-fiction books I read were- Not Without My Daughter & Memoirs of a Geisha. Although not usually a fan of non-fiction I really enjoyed reading books with strong female characters.

I want to finally get back to my original reading habits. I’m currently 21 and filling out grad apps, giving interviews and overall just have a shit ton of pent up anxiety/frustration/rage.

Looking for books written by women and for women that fit well with my current angsty mood!

P.S I really enjoyed the gore-ey, twisted vibe of Bunny by Mona Awad and I’m currently reading I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman.

Loved and Missed is good. Not gory but sad and the ending is bitter sweet. All characters are women.

    2. The first 3 are a little Bunnish in that they don’t pay strict attention to reality. The last three were just great reads by and for women.

How To Be Eaten by Maria Adelmann

Mrs. Caliban by Rachel Ingalls (republished; don’t read the introduction because it gives everything away).

      The Need by Helen Phillips

The Hero of This Book by Elizabeth McCracken

The Secret Lives of Babi Segi’s Wives by Lola Shoneyin (search by ‘Shoneyin’ because different editions have slight variations of her first name and the title)

The Three of Us by Ore Agbaje-Williams. (Someone needs to make a stage adaption of this).

My Year of Rest and Relaxation – Ottessa Moshfegh

      The Whispers – Ashley Audrain

Big Little Lies – Liane Moriarty

Stone Cold Fox – Rachel Koller Croft

The Husband’s Secret – Sally Hepworth

    4. “The Change” by K. Miller. It’s about women who have had enough of certain men’s bullshit.

[When Women Were Dragons](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58783802) by Kelly Barnhill. It’s slow and could have been half the length without losing anything but I still felt very satisfied by the end. Solid 4/5 read for me.

Almost all the criticism I’ve heard about the book was either men upset that the book doesn’t focus on them and they were NOT ALL MENing or people who accused the author of skipping nuances that were explicitly addressed in the book. Which isn’t to say there isn’t valid criticism out there, just thought it was interesting for a book to create those reactions.
