Typically I enjoy psychological thrillers, cozy mysteries, books where I’m surprised by the ending. Right now, I’m in a very dark head space and what I normally read isn’t working.

Any suggestions for some books that aren’t slow, but aren’t dark? When I look at comedies, most of them are romances and they aren’t working for me either. I may be asking for something too specific. I just don’t even know how to search for what I need.

    1. Maybe try some David Sedaris if you want comedy without romance. His essays/short non fiction stories are easy to read, often funny in a dark or slightly offensive way and can be decent for a chuckle.

    2. If you’re looking for something that makes you look at humanity in a positive way, try John Green’s *The Anthropocene Reviewed.*

If you’re looking for something action-packed with humor, maybe try *All Systems Red* by Martha Wells. The Murderbot Diaries is set in a future capitalist hellscape, but overall the series is surprisingly hopeful.
