I was talking with a colleague just now about this because they quoted the first line from Anna Karenina when presenting and I beamed because I love that book, and she said it was the first Tolstoy she read, and loved it so much she skipped her queue of books to read more of his stuff, War & Peace being next.
I laughed because I cannot do that. As much as I loved Anna Karenina, I would have gotten so tired if I read a massive tome like War & Peace directly after—even though I love that book too. I like to split out my epics: one big epic book, then one short one to reset my brain.
But I get the desire to go on binges for an author you love. I fell in love with John Fante and read like 4 of his books in succession. But it’s not always an author. If I read a good horror book I may wanna tackle another horror book after. Or a depressing book binge. And so on. Currently I’m on a Knut Hamsun binge, FYI.
How about all of you?

I’m not sure I have binges the way some others do simply because I always have more than one book going at a time. But I will go in phases where I read just a ton of historical mystery, or a ton of science non-fiction, or a ton of fantasy. It just won’t be the only thing I read.
I like sagas and topics, for example I read the whole saga of master of Rome same author yes but more importantly one story then I went with I’m Rome, one book one story but very big so, now I’m on a break with a small star wars book
Yeah it’d usually be an author binge for me, although i have had the odd genre binge especially about a specific era of history (fiction or non-fiction).
Genre and author phases for me. There will be times when all I’ll read for several weeks is sci-fi and there will be times when I’ll read a dozen Agatha Christie books in a row.
My most enjoyable binge in recent memory was 6 consecutive Joe Abercrombie novels.
That was a fun journey.
She binges on my length until I metaphor.
Straight reading binges, I try to stick to consistency when reading but sometimes the bug bites and I have to read more than I should
My palate cleansers tend to be binges. Short meet cutes, three or four series romance, short stories classics. I like long detective stories, gripping murder mysteries, generation spanning sagas, ten series mystery books, etc. So my brain needs a break in between, and lately meet cutes have been doing me wonders for getting some laughs and chuckles.
Series binges. I find a series and read the first book and get stuck until the series is over. The latest one was maze runner, and now I’m on twilight lol
