Despite having wanted to read one of Stephen King’s book beofre, I had never read one before I don’t know why, maybe because I’m not that much of a fan of horror literature fan myself or maybe becuase there was always some other book I had more interest in reading, but I had nothing to read and I decided to give it a try since for the summary apparently it was more focused on fantasy, I would say it’s not a bad book, but I’m dissappointed becuase of the following reasons (Spoilers).
1. I felt that it was too long, I get we needed to establish the relationship between Mr Bowditch and Charlie but at a certain point I was like “you already estabished their friendship, let’s move on becuase nothing magical has happened so far”. And when Charlie was traveling to the city I felt like not a lot of things were happening. There were some random scenes here and there that I think could have been cut without affecting the story
2. The villain’s deaths were dissapointing, Charlie just had to shoot Hana and Molly to kill them, ok Charlie is not the best warrior but I think King could have come up with a better way to kill them or at least have one of them die a different way, Kellin’s death was confusing, he didn’t put up a fight and was basically murdered in his sleep by rats, and Elden was just killed by Gogmagog.
3. Speaking of Gogmagog, what’s up with that? apparently everyone was so afraid of waking him up they avoided saying his name out loud, even if the current world was already hopeless, but then Charlie defeats him just by saying his name? honestly I was expecting Elden or Leah to sacrifice themselves to save the world, a little cliche, I know, but I was definetly not expeting that to happen
4. I liked the world but there were some elements that kid of pulled me away form the fantasy, like Kellin driving a golf car or that apparently they had trams in Lilimar, it was just weird to have certain elements during the story.
5. There were some elements that I thought would come back later in the story like the alcoholism of Charie’s dad or Bowditch’s past, but they didn’t, the first one felt like a lot of background to explain charlie’s life and with Bowditch I was expecting they would reveal some plot twist about his time on that world, but nothing, he wasn’t even mentioned a lot.
So, I have some questions, is Stepehen king like this in his other books? I mean taking his time to begin the story ? giving long backgrounds to his characters?

My biggest problem with King is his tendency to ramble. I enjoy his books, but he definitely has quirks that can be bothersome if you read his stuff often.
