I have recently begun reading a 1000 page book (I am sure I can trust no one to spoil it if I name the book but I don’t want to take the risk by mentioning it). I have found myself truly loving and enjoying this book. The only problem is for the life of me I can’t find a good place to read it.

I either have to hold it which hurts my hands because it’s so heavy and uneven. Or I have to put it down and lean over it which hurts my neck. How are people comfortably ready books? I have this issue even with books that aren’t heavy tbh. But it’s so much worse with a heavy book.

E-reader. I have a Kobo and use Libby/Overdrive to check out library books, it’s amazing. Especially with neck/back/arm pain.

Try sitting comfortably and use a stack of pillows in your lap to get the book to a good height.

    2. I have some sort of (undiagnosed) nerve issues in my wrist/hands and probably need to get readers soon so ereader is the only way I can read comfortably now.

    3. Sideways in an oversize armchair. Legs over one arm and a lap desk to help support the book, so I mostly just have to hold it open. I find e-books more annoying than holding a physical book for text over 400 pages.

Or I find myself unintentionally shifting the book almost every page to see the text next to the spine better, and it minimizes hand fatigue. That mostly applies when I’m reading a large collection in a single volume, like all of the Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories together, so I’m reading shorter segments, too.

    4. Squishmallow has a line of stuffies that’s block shaped. I use one of those to prop up the book when reading.

    5. Set a pillow on your lap and lay the book on it while you hold the pages down at the edges. Works best if you have armrests or more pillows to go under your elbows. This keeps it up at a good reading level
