I want a book or (preferably) a series with characters I would die for. It doesn’t necessarily mean the characters have to be lovable. Books like All for the Game which is one of my absolute favorites, and I would do unspeakable things for the characters in there to be happy and the foxes happen to be some of the most traumatised and messed up bunch that I have ever come across.
It also helps if it is a long series which would mean sticking with the characters for a long time, like Throne of Glass(that series is my Roman Empire) I would commit arson for Aelin and she wouldn’t even have to ask.
Also, bonus points if the characters have a great found family dynamic that is messy but works between them.

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. I LOVE the characters, they’re so vivid and fun. It’s the first in a series and I’ve enjoyed them all so far.
The series you’re searching for is Maggie Stiefvater’s *The Raven Cycle*:)
Gideon the Ninth did this for me 🙂 Lesbian necromancers in space making MESSY choices. Also the MXTX books like Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation or Scum Villain’s Self Saving System, they’re translated from Chinese and have that special sauce of “absolute insanity treated seriously” plus a wide cast of characters that have a good amount of development / you can dig into their choices a lot.
Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings (12 books). It is outrageous that I should care so much about people who only exist as ink on paper.
Maybe A Fallen Hero + the rest of the series by Sara A Noe? I think the main characters found family is so great and even though it gets sorta messy in the third book. And there are very few antagonists I want to punch more then the ones in this series for daring to hurt the main characters, so you should probably like the main characters! Fair warning the series isn’t finished yet though so you’ll have to suffer a cliffhanger for a bit
The Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. Everyone is incredibly smart and competent, incredibly flawed, and incredibly traumatized. It’s a long series- almost, but not quite, a family saga- and the main character of many of the books, Miles Naismith Vorkosigan, is one of the most well-written disabled protagonists I’ve ever seen.
Lord of the rings 🕺🕺
Try Jodie King – Unravelling The Beast on Amazon
{the fourth wing} is really good imo
If you enjoyed All for the Game, you might also like the Captive Prince series by CS Pacat.
Also, for messy found family, the Six of Crows series is good. It’s more towards the YA side of things, but still a fun read.
Andrew Vachss’s Burke series. They’re very dark but that found family would die for each other.
