I finished this book yesterday and absolutely loved it to pieces. I loved it so much that as the audiobook finished on the last line I actually started clapping. I loved the characters, especially Marcellus and his sarcasm about life, Tova was a brilliant beautiful woman who even though she was caught in the past tragedy of her husband and son, I loved her cantankerous nature but she was also so kind. Cam actually grew as a character and positively at that.

I guess what I loved most about the novel and what I want more of is the kind of story where there are such low stakes, the entirety of the novel is a man’s search for the person who could be his father, moving to a small town to find him and discovering a family he thought he could never have. Ethan the Scottish shop keep, Avery the owner of the surf shop, there wasn’t a single character I disliked. I need more small town low stakes moving, funny, melancholy. Just please tell me there are other books out there like this one. This book made me cry happy tears, I want to cry happy tears.

A Man Called Ove has similar themes to this book. It does have some difficult content such as suicidal ideation. However, it’s very heartwarming and Ove is cantankerous like Tova.

    2. Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus has an intelligent animal as one of its characters (dog) and we hear his thoughts.

    3. I really loved RBC as well and finished it yesterday. I think you would enjoy Beth O’Leary’s The Switch: a Novel and also The Flatshare. You should also check out The Dutch House by Ann Pratchett.
