Looking for female led, somewhat dark with a good twist and satisfying ending

I just finished Bunny by Mona Awad. I loved Bunny for the pacing, but found it lacking in character development. Overall, I give it five stars and it’s definitely the type of book I enjoy. I’m looking for suggestions in a similar vein.

I like a female led mystery or contemporary novel with a surprising twist and a clean ending that wraps everything up. Bonus points if the main character is middle aged. I’ve read everything by Gillian Flynn, and a couple by Paula Hawkins, and love those authors. I haven’t much enjoyed Colleen Hover. I read Verity and It Ends With Us and found them both underwhelming and somewhat unbelievable. I loved many of the Janet Evanovitch Stephanie Plum novels, so female led detective stories are great, too.
