Here are just some of my reflections after giving a second read of the book :
• I love how the themes of the book are deceptively cued by various microscopic situations. Kathy’s impassivity to Ruth’s manipulation kinda mirrors the way the clones just kind of resign to the fate that they’re given.
• Kathy and Tommy’s attempt to make use of their short amount together after the late acceptance of them having feelings for each other is just undeniably heart wrenching
• I love Tommy and how Ishiguro wrote him. His child-like innocence throughout the whole book is so devastating in the face of his horrid reality. The one particular scene where he says his last goodbye to Kathy and where he recounts on how he used celebrate every touchdown with both arms raised as a kid and then Kathy responding by giving him the sweetest and saddest response “ You crazy kid, Tommy”, really gutted me
