Hey all, I am writing a novel with a very complicated romance between two addicts. I admit that I am a bit of a literary snob so I really want modern book suggestions that are well written, preferably very descriptive with a poetic element, sharp witty dialogue or both. A good example would be Jeffery Eugenides “The Marriage Plot”. I am hoping to get modern suggestions as opposed to the classics as I am using the books to develop my own writing, which will not be in a classical style. A few writers I love are Mona Awad, Marge Piercy, Margaret Atwood, Helen Oyeyemi, Ben Okri, Otessa Mossfegh so anything with that much attention to detail. I hate sally rooney so nothing like that suits. Anything that has won a literary prize would be extra helpful. Sorry in advance for being a book snob but could really use the help as romance is absolutely not an area in literature I am well versed in.
