I really enjoyed reading Great Gatsby because the narrator, Nick Carraway, was pretty misanthropic by the start of his narration and definitely more by the end (at least that was my read of the character). In any case, I’d like to read more books (of no particular genre) with insight from characters that, like Nick, narrate from the context of “I don’t particularly find these people savory and they’re giving me more insight into their lives than I care to be privy to”. Nothing super edgy though, I’m looking more for an older person who is tired of dealing with all the moving parts of other people’s lives as opposed to a teenager who finds people repulsive due to some anti-social or anti-norm tendencies.
Don’t know if I need this disclaimer, but I’m in a good place in my life, and quite happy. Great Gatsby was just a breath of fresh air in this particular regard because I hadn’t seen that character trait in much else previously. Any suggestions welcome!
