To be honest, I’m finding it boring. What am I missing? Everyone seems to like it. I liked the action sections but aside from that it’s mostly scenery descriptions and, at least as far as I’ve come (seventh chapter), there isn’t much meaningful dialogues nor character development too… Why do you like it? Why can’t I grasp what makes it good?

It is fundamentally a Children book. If you are looking for a suitable companion to the movies you will be disappointed.
Same reason I like LotR: Tolkien’s prose is pretty
I like scenery descriptions.
It’s the ultimate comfort book for me, and I love Tolkien’s writing. If you’re after action and lots of dialogue and character development though, Tolkien’s not for you.
