    I seem to be struggling to find books that keep my attention in the past few months – might be my mood, might be the library stock, might be the wrong search terms … I can’t possibly be running out of books.

    I’m looking for crime-thriller-police procedural-mystery type books (tick one of the above, not all – but bonus points if it does!) that are set outside of the US, written by writers from that country (e.g., not specifically looking to read books by Canadians set in Germany, etc.). Preference for settings in Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, NZ. I have run the gamut of Nordic Noir that is translated into English. I’m on an Irish show kick, so bonus points for anything set in either Ireland or Northern Ireland.

    For audio-books, I would love to also receive suggestions that have great narrators in the book types above with good British or Irish narrators.

    Books/Series I’ve read and enjoyed *recently* to give you an idea of the type of books I’m lean towards:

    * Inspector Banks (Peter Robinson)
    * Cormac Reilly (Dervla McTiernan)
    * Slough House (Mick Herron)
    * Rachel Getty & Esa Khattak (Ausma Zehanat Khan)
    * Cormoran Strike (Robert Galbraith)
    * I Let You Go (Clare Mackintosh)
    * The Whisper Man (Alex North)
    * Five Strangers (E.V. Adamson)
    * The Prisoner (B.A. Paris)
    * The Liar’s Girl (Catherine Ryan Howard)
    * The Chestnut Man (Soren Sveistrup)

    I am currently finishing up the Vera books by Ann Cleeves which will tie up all her books for me.

    Not a huge fan of Mark Billingham. Hated the Jorja Knight series (Canadian).

    Nothing is off limits, content wise, but not looking for horror or just page upon page of bloody, hellish descriptions. I like pedantic. I like off the wall. I like cold and cruel. I like psychological. Whatever goes!

    1. The Dorothy Simpson mysteries are just wonderful. She was an English writer and her murder mysteries are set in small villages in Kent, England. There are about 15 books in total all featuring the same detective. I loved them.
