I’m struggling to find a definitive difference between what it means for artwork in a book to be “illustrated” by one person and “drawn” by another. Can anyone, please, help enlighten me?
Context: I’m looking at purchasing the Lord of the Rings book series where the “illustrations” are by Ingahild Grathmer (Aka the now-former Queen Margrethe the II of Denmark) because my mother is a huge fan of Denmark/Danish culture/the Danish royal family/Danish everything. However, directly under “illustrations by Ingahild Grathmer” is “drawn by Eric Fraser”. For the books to have the full meaningful impact I’d like them to, I’d like a little more information on what it means for the artwork to be “illustrated” by one person and “drawn” by another. Any and all enlightenment is appreciated.
