I really want to get into horror but I don’t really visualize things in my head when I read so a lot of horror books that rely on creature freatures or really atmospheric don’t really effect me. I’ve read things like tender is the flesh, jerusalem’s lot and I’m thinking of ending things. I’m thinking of ending things was the closest one to making me feel uneasy the other ones were okay.
Basically I want to feel scared but can’t visualize written descriptions

You should try Penpal by Dathan Auerbach.
It’s a scary story that does not rely on atmosphere or hard to visualize supernatural elements. It’s just a crazy real world story. Plus it’s short! I blew through it.
The Haunting of Hill House, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and House of Leaves are ones I’ve seen recommended in a different sub for folks with aphantasia. I’d skip Stephen King because he’s all about atmosphere.
