So I’m heavily into the fantasy/mystery type books. Have always loved fantasy.

But I also wanna expand my horizons, as a reader and writer. So I’d love nonfiction book recommendations, but not just any.

I want specifically nonfiction that feels like fiction, so most likely something “historical”. About historical societies. Maybe Middle ages, dark ages, Roman and Greek empires, Egyptian, ect ect.

Those ages have always interested me as far as history is concerned. Something to keep my attention. It can be long or short.

    1. My absolute favourite is ‘The Ambassadors’ by Jonathan Wright. It covers the beginnings of diplomacy and several time periods.

    2. PsychopompousEnigma on

The Ghost Map: The Story of London’s Most Terrifying Epidemic by Steven Johnson. It’s about the cholera epidemic that hit London in 1854 and the efforts of Dr. John Snow and Reverend Henry Whitehead to uncover the source of the disease.

The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester. Focuses on the collaboration of Dr. James Murray, the editor, and Dr. William Minor, a convicted murderer confined to an asylum.

The Plantagenets: The Warrior Kings and Queens Who Made England by Dan Jones. Sweeping history of the Plantagenet dynasty.

    3. Not historical, but “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer is often regarded as nonfiction that feels/reads like fiction!
