I am not a reader. First time I have ever read a book was probably around 10 years ago, it was The First Law trilogy. I was hooked, it was amazing read but sadly I never picked up a book ever again. And the only reason I read it, is that I was craving for Game Of Thrones next season so hard, I needed a fix and this book was suggested.

I really want to improve my English now, after doing plenty of googling, i picked up and read Death of Ivan Ilych . I was forcing my self to read it, it wasn’t interesting read to me what so ever but I really got into main character as I was reading it.

Then I read The Great Gatsby, this was a little bit more interesting but for the life of me I couldn’t get into any of the characters, it felt like it was all over the place, i was getting lost constantly about what was going on, it was quite frustrating but what kept me going is that there was a movie about this book and I was very exited to watch it afterwards. Didn’t enjoy the movie, it was basically just like book…all over the place. It also felt a bit odd watching the movie straight after reading a book, felt like I was reading a book all over again, just felt weird . Over all i didnt enjoy it at all. But im defiantly sure if I would have enjoyed book I would have enjoyed movie.

Basically i realized I dislike anything to do with 18th/19th century, nothing interests me about that time period

Some of other suggested books on google are: Count Of Monet Cristo and Game of Thrones I have watched film and series countless times already, Harry Potter I also have seen all of them once or twice.

I have a book i want to read called The Way of Kings, but apparently its not the best type of book to read if I want to improve English vocabulary

Can you please give me some suggestions, i quite like dark stuff, Medieval Fantasy, Psychological kinda stuff, Mystery, not really sure in terms of books, can definitely name you some of my favorite films if that would help you to give me a good book suggestion. Would be good if theres a movie I could watch after reading a book

    Thanks in advance

    1. Tolkien, Ursula K. Le Guin, Gene Wolfe, Jack Vance, Roger Zelazny for some fantasy/sci-fi writers that are masters.

While his books are a lot of fun, Sanderson is pretty pulpy and his prose leaves a lot to be desired, so I wouldn’t exactly suggest Way of Kings for that any more than just about any other fantasy writer.

If you quite like dark stuff, Poe and Lovecraft can’t hurt.

Count of Monte Cristo is fantastic btw.
