My son and I listen to audiobooks on our drives. He really loved Starter Villain. He enjoyed the story, but also really loved Will Wheaton as the narrator. (Like, he thinks Will Wheaton is the best thing since sliced bread.) He picked Kaiju Preservation Society next, and also really loved that. We’ve just finished that up and are looking for our next book before a long-ish drive to our camping trip this evening. I’d love any recommendations for 1) the next Scalzi/Wheaton book we should give a try and 2) any similar books/narration that he’d enjoy. I am a fan of the dynamic duo of Scalzi and Wheaton, but would love to throw some variety in there, too…mostly for my sake. 😬😂 I’m not a huge stickler in terms of cursing, etc. I am more concerned with graphic violence or sex scenes, and general disrespect for others. Would love a little help! Thank you!

Wil Wheaton narrates Ready Player One and does an excellent job. I realize the book is based heavily on video games in the 80s so may seem niche but I honestly couldn’t care less about video games (or the 80s particularly) and still found it very enjoyable. I don’t recall anything specifically explicit in that book but it’s been a while. Maybe someone else can chime in?
If he’s not bothered by zombies and a little swearing, World War Z is supposed to be the best audiobook ever recorded. Audiobooks make me fall asleep, so I can’t confirm this, but it’s a fabulous book.
Armada by Ernest Cline is great (stay away from Ready Player Two – no child should have to listen to that much virtual sex and masturbation with their parent).
Neverwhere or Good Omens by Neil Gaiman
The Percy Jackson books are great, but Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is even better.
Devolution by Max Brooks is a great cryptid book with no sex or drug use and a great lady or the tiger ending to get you talking.
Not sure how the audiobooks are, but maybe he would enjoy Michael Crichton’s work? He wrote Jurassic Park and many others! Not exactly sure about content level though
Project Hail Mary was a good listen.
Fair warning – there’s a fair amount of sex in the Old Man’s War series. (Scalzi – I don’t know if Weaton read them for the audio versions.)
I believe that Wheaton also narrated Scalzi’s Redshirts.
