Last summer I read Moby-Dick, Treasure Island and The Wind in the Willows in a row. I then realized that the books loosely fit the theme of sailing. While this is obviously a very superficial theme, it still is a small similarity in vastly different books.

This happened again when I read the newest book of Ken Follett‘s Kingsbridge series and next read North and South. They both are about the industrial revolution and its impact on the different classes.

I did cluster read books before because they have similar themes. I did this specifically with Madame Bovary and Effi Briest (I read Anna Karenina a year earlier and still had pretty good recollection of it, otherwise I would have read it then too).

Is this something you experienced as well? Or do you even do this on purpose as much as possible? Which themes did you notice and what books was it?

    1. I have a wheel of fortune based system for chosing my next book from the shelf. Last year I read Moby Dick and then The Old Man and the Sea almost right after each other. I loved both of them, but the themes are very similar.
