Books like Wild Swans by Jung Chang but in Japan

I loved Wild Swans, I was so immersed in the story of the women but also found the cultural and historical context of the story so riveting. I’m travelling to Japan this year and would love to find books that are both personal stories but also give me a glimpse into the cultural and history of the country. Any recommendations please?
