I hesitate to reply because I’m guessing you’re not looking for kids’ books, but if you’re open to that genre: Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn.
A quick Google search showed me that the book was recently turned into a graphic novel (still with kids as the primary audience), if that’s closer to your style!

**Raybearer** / **Redemptor** by Jordan Ifueko.
Ghostly children play an important role in the second book. Their voices from the audiobook still haunt me.
(The second book can’t really be understood without the first one – but that’s a bonus, the series is worth reading for many reasons.)

The September House – Carissa Orlando. It’s a new horror book, and there are some ghost children involved!
The Burning Girls – CJ Tudor. Also ghost children.
Violet – Scott Thomas – an evil ghost child.

John Saul did a lot of these kind of books, Suffer the Children should be a good start.
