Looking for a book where the main character is “rotting” from the inside
I want only classics
I want something like the picture of dorian gray, the character doesn’t have to be rotting due to evil behaviour it could be mental illness or some traumatic experience that slowly makes them lose themselves.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (short story)
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
I wouldn’t say it’s exactly what your looking for with rotting from the inside . If you liked Dorian gray try out crime and punishment by Dostoevsky
One of my favorites , Albert Camus books are also great along those lines . And the trial by Kafka
Robert Silverberg – Dying Inside. IDK if it exactly fits what you’re looking for, but its awesome
Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson might scratch the itch?
