First, I thought Diane Setterfield’s prose was a bit over-wrought/over-written but tried to look past that. Then about 60-70 pages into the book we hear about the sexual assault, incest, and suicide attempts and WOW. That was pretty much a turnoff for me and I’ve struggled to read much past that. Does it get better? I generally love gothic mystery-type novels and this has been on my TBR for YEARS.
