Suggest me books that encapsulate the nuances of being a man— those important choices and beliefs that are inexplicable, but known. I’m looking for something along the lines of The Awakening, but for men.
Think Steinbeck, Lonesome Dove, Bukwoski (albeit ironically), etc.

No Country For Old Men. Man tries hard to make a good life for his family but fails due to being protective of random people.

He was a Roman Emperor that came into rule during a period of heavy conflict and even a plague. In this book which was essentially his journal of sorts, you get to peek into his thoughts about ruling, responsibilities, rationality, finding meaning, and the beauty of nature.
