I just had the idea that I would really enjoy something like that. I’d really like a female main character/perspective, but it’s not absolutely necessary and I’m looking forward to any suggestions you all might have… Oh, and I’m not a huge fan of entirely pessimistic narratives.

Seventh Heaven by Alice Hoffman
This may fit your needs, but it does not have a female main character. *Murder Your Employer* by Rupert Holmes is set in the 1950s. It’s about a school where people go to learn how to commit the perfect murder. It’s got satire of higher education and Ivy League schools. I’d recommend the audiobook if you enjoy them. Neil Patrick Harris does an excellent job of narrating.
