What are some of your favorite memoirs? I like those that center around mental health/addiction, medical diagnoses (i.e. Brain On Fire), or overcoming difficult circumstances. My all-time favorite is Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy, followed closely by Blackbird by Jennifer Lauck. Both authors have such unique voices and I cried multiple times while reading. Beautiful Boy by David Sheff also affected me a lot.

The King’s Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy by Mark Logue and Peter Conradi. Saw the movie, saw that it was based on a book (well, his journals at least) and thoroughly enjoyed the book.

You might be interested in Truth and Beauty by Ann Patchett – it’s about her friendship with Lucy Grealy

Educated by Tara Westover is fascinating – she grew up in a home where the parents were paranoid about interference from the state. She’s not 100% sure what her birthday is because they didn’t register it, she never went to school, if she was ill they gave her home-made tinctures that did nothing, etc

Bad Blood by Lorna Sage is also brilliant – she was brought up by her grandparents who hated one another because her father was off fighting in the war and she’s trying so hard to get out
