This would be my second science-fiction novel (first was 2001: A Space Odyssey). I haven’t watched any of the movies, because I would like to experience the books first. The thing that intrigues me the most about this book is that I have heard that it’s very similar to the politics in ASOIAF (and I love ASOIAF).. Also, are the other books worth it, or should I stop at Dune? Please leave any tips before reading this book.

Why don’t you read Dune, and then decide if you read the other books.
I think you’re off to a good start, what with 2001 as your previous. I don’t know if it’s similar to the politics of ASOIAF, but then I remember this line from Not Literally’s “A Character I Used to Know”
*I thought the main character was Ned Stark since he’s on the poster.*
*That had me believing that you wouldn’t dare to kill him, too.*
It’ll feel complicated but just read through it and you’ll get lost in the world.
Just dive in head first! I cannot recommend it enough though don’t expect it to be as character driven as asoiaf
The first third is kinda slow, full of political intrigue. Keep at it
