I have not read an actual front to back book in many years now, and as I’m getting older, I really want to just simply go back in time to the fantasy books I vaguely remember reading over 30 years ago when I was a kid.

I’m going to start with what I’m guessing is the gold standard, LOTR, but are there other major books with the themes in my topic I might be getting my memories mixed up with?

If you can draw a comparison to old video game atmospheres, I’m talking about things in a Kings Quest or Skyrim type environment..

I want to get lost in descriptive environments with mountains and fields and flowers.. maybe a cross between medieval times and magic.. I really appreciate it when a book is so descriptive you can literally be transported to that environment

Thank you for your advice 😊

    1. Maybe not exactly what you are looking for but A Wizard of Earthsea has beautiful writing and has enough depth for adults to enjoy.

    2. The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. Not only one of the best fantasy novels I’ve ever read, but one of the best novels in any genre.
