I’d like a romantic book where the two leads are too busy having adventures/solving mysteries to pursue their love (until the end of the book)

I really love Elizabeth Peters’ Crocodile on the Sandbank series and Simone St James’ ghost story novels. And I just read the “Village Healer’s Book of Cures” which again whetted my appetite for this kind of story. Not wanting a strict romance novel but a novel with strong romance elements where the main story is *not* about the romance. Can be paranormal, regular mystery, historical, fantasy, whatever. (Am less into sci fi.) I especially like books where the heroine learns she can be independent/acts independently and the love interest is super into that aspect of her. 🙂

I prefer one-offs to series (since the romantic payoff is usually better in a one-off).
