Hello, I was looking through my kindle wishlist and library and realized that I read a lot of novel series and when I tried looking for stand alone ones I didn’t find much (guessing the store recommended a lot of series sine I read a lot of them) and I found myself unable to think of many so I would love to hear some recommendations.
I like to read basically any genre though I’m not looking for non-fiction. Please avoid the obvious classics like Count of Monte Cristo, Dracula, East of Eden and such, those I’ve read or plan to read. I’m also already a huge fan of Neil Gaian, Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut and Terry Pritchett so I don’t need any books from them.
Thank you for your time and I hope I it doesn’t sound like just a bunch of caveats, I just wanted to be as clear as possible.

Recent standalone books I loved:
The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff, about a servant girl who escapes from colonial Jamestown during the famine and heads north through the American wilderness.
If Cats Disappeared from the World by Genki Kawamura, which is deeply emotional and really thought-provoking.
The Wedding by Dorothy West. Set in the 1950s in the Black summer community on Martha’s Vineyard, it opens with the wedding of the daughter of one of the wealthiest families to a white man, and then delved into the history of trauma and struggle that marked the rise of these people from slavery in the 19th century. An amazing read.
The Island of Lost Girls by Alex Marwood. She’s one of my favorite thriller writers, and the story about a mother traveling to Greece to try to rescue her daughter whom she suspects is in danger was a real page-turner for me!
Of the City of the Saved. It’s a sci-fi book set in an afterlife for humanity where every human that ever lived is resurrected in invulnerable bodies and yet somehow, a murder has been committed… It is technically part of the Faction Paradox series but it’s an anthology series, the only connection between the stories is that they share the same terminology and occasionally take place in the same universe.
If you like Kurt Vonnegut and Stephan King you’d probably like Chuck Palahnuik.
I read a dowry of blood the other day and liked it. Great palette cleanser and an interesting take on the brides of Dracula is you’re into that. Its a quick read too if you don’t have a ton of time
Erich.M Remarque – three comrades, the night in Lisbon
Nicholas Sparks – The notebook
Charlotte Bronte – Jane eyre
F.Dostoevsky – crime n punishment; white nights
L.Tolstoy – Anna Karenina
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, not a novel but still great; Plague by Albert Camus
*Declare* by Tim Powers is a World Fantasy Award-winning supernatural spy novel – Kim Philby’s world with dark magic behind the scenes.
Everyone I’ve recommended it to has really liked it. I love it.
Shogun by James Clavell
