A friend of mine and I like to buddy read series together and I’m responsible for selecting the next series.
Me (33m) read more fantasy series than anything and my friend (40’sf) enjoys a much wider scope than I do but prefers sci-fi over fantasy. She doesn’t really like steam punk type things it seems and she’ll do fantasy but she doesn’t really like high fantasy. If she’s going to enjoy a fantasy book it’d likely be dark urban fantasy to use her words.
The first series we did together was the Dark Tower series by Stephen King and we both enjoyed it pretty well.
The most recent series we finished is Red Rising by Pierce Brown and it was fantastic. We both really enjoyed it.
I don’t know if I’ll find something we both enjoy as much as Red Rising but I don’t want to select a total flop either.

We did Dracula together.
We did Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang. (she loves ted chiang but he might just write to smart for me)
She’s recommended to me things like Dr. No, Library at Mount Char, The Spear That Cuts Through Water, things like that.
We have talked about doing the Expanse Series before and we’ve also talked about the Jade City.
My friend is more well read than I am and I need help selecting the right series. Please help!
