“The Last Bookaneer,” by Mathew Pearl. A bookaneer is a manuscript thief who,along with a sketchy publisher, gets the stolen manuscript into the market in the thief’s name. They steal works in progress by ‘the great writers.” The book takes place in the late 1890s London. These three frenemy bookaneers are each on the trail of Robert Louis Stevenson’s last work in progress. The problem is that Stevenson has retired to Samoa to write his last novel.
The antics of these book thieves in the pursuit of this manuscript is definitely worth a read
