My most recent was American Psycho. I heald off on reading it for no reason other a long TBR, but as I was reading I just couldn’t help being completely jolted by such (unique?) writing. Ever since i’ve finished it, it’s hard not to contemplate, which of course is the point, and it’s left a huge knott in my stomach ever since. It’s now hard to imagine another book provoking such a visceral reaction.

So tragic, yet so beautiful.
I just finished Doomsday Book by Connie Willis and the last third of it absolutely destroyed me, definitely recommend if you’re looking for some emotional suffering paired with brilliant writing.
The Nightingale
The Grapes of Wrath. It made me feel hopelessly sad and bitterly hopeful all at the same time.
