Advice on where to begin exploring Eastern philosophy
I want to try learning something original and very different from what we are accustomed to in Western philosophy. I don’t know where to begin. Some of the themes I have encountered here and there that fascinated me were understanding reality through direct experience rather than conceptualization, the nature of thought and how a thought can be considered without a subject thinking it, the holistic and dynamic approach to causality, as opposed to metaphysical, i.e. many things, come together chaotically to cause something rather than strict cause and event sequence.
I think that given the above I would be most interested in Buddhism, but I would really appreciate some expertise. I am open to any suggestions – books, films, articles, lectures…
