Hey Reddit! Apologies if this is a bit long. I’m on my college’s common reader committee, and we’re in the process of figuring out our common reader for the 2024-25 school year.

We’re going with a “choose a theme, then a book” process this year, and we narrowed it down to some possibilities: Opioid epidemic/health and wellness, First person examples of overcoming adversity, Evolving technology (artificial intelligence), Environment awareness, Evolving nature of higher education and the importance of a well-rounded education

Books we used in the past include *Turtles All the Way Down* by John Green, *Thirst* by Scott Harrison (which focuses on bringing water to underserved communities in Africa), and *Being Heumann* by Judy Heumann (which focuses on disability awareness, advocacy, and the passing of legislation)

I work at a small community college in rural Kentucky, USA, and the hope would be to choose a book that can be used in a variety of disciplines.

Right now, I have *The Anthropocene Reviewed* by John Green on the list. I would like to offer at least one YA book as well.

    Any suggestions?
