The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. It’s haunted me for over 20 years.

*Blindsight* by Peter Watts. Absolutely fabulous. [Also free if you like.](https://www.rifters.com/real/Blindsight.htm) Good book for the season – it creeped me out. *The Three Body Problem* is great, too, but a bit more to take on.

I hated the three body problem. I could not get into it.
Instead I liked the themis files, which starts with sleeping gods.
I also liked the book out of the dark by David Weaver which has some viewpoints from the aliens themselves and some interesting thoughts about how aliens might think very differently from how we think and how those standards of thought can have consequences.
I heard that the book annihilation is very good also, but I have only seen the movie.

Have to be a Trekkie, but Strangers from the Sky by Margaret Wander Bonanno. Her novel Dwellers in the Crucible is also excellent.
