Hi! My preferred style of getting through a book is to get totally sucked in, open it every chance I get, and let it consume my life. I’m a pretty fast reader, but lately all the books I’ve been finding myself drawn to are on the longer side. I’m planning for a trip to visit my grandparents and sometimes when I visit, I struggle to keep my nose out of a book. At the same time, they live in a quiet, peaceful area, so it’s really perfect for cozying up with a good read, I just don’t want to forego all my socializing for another great read. I think shorter reads will help me to put the books away for a bit, since I’ll need less time to get through them! Furthermore, I’m leaving a job in the book industry, and am thinking that some shorter reads might help with my readers’ block!

Graphic novels, short story collections, classics, memoir, and essays are all more than acceptable to me. I’m open to YA and children’s suggestions, but that’s where I’ve been working for the last few years, so I’m a little hungry for more adult narratives. I’m not very interested in science/speculative fiction, more so fantasy and magical realism.

Books I’ve enjoyed recently: The Story of the Hundred Promises by Neil Cochrane, To Shape a Dragon’s Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose, White Cat Black Dog by Kelly Link, The Lumberjack’s Dove by GennaRose Nethercott, The Night Parade by Jami Nakamura Lin. I like things that are weird, whimsical, maybe a little dark. Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers and The Portrait of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde are next on my list, if that’s helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

Since you mentioned Jami Nakamura Lin, In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado, and since you mentioned Kelly Link, Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung and Things We Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enriquez.

Convenience Store Woman and Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata are weird and whimsical.
