Hi! I recently finished reading For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten and I didn’t understand how the magic of this world worked. Asked a coworker who has read it and they agreed. Could someone explain the mechanics? More about what I didn’t understand hopefully hidden 😅 >!I don’t get how the main characters could draw from the Wilderwood to heal the Wilderwood when it was what was being weakened/getting “sick” from the rot. No amount of blood seemed to help either since several second daughters died as the Wilderwood tried to heal itself. Plus the general usage of the magic seemed to change throughout the book?!< Did I miss something or is it just not clear?

    1. I like Hannah Whitten’s books, but I always think they’re confusing, too. I never felt 100% clear on the Wilderwood’s magic, even after reading For the Throne.

Magic in For the Wolf operates like a feedback loop. They draw strength from Wilderwood, then give back through sacrifices. It’s a delicate balance.
