She’s going on vacation soon. She’s a self-described “non-reader” and has been my entire life. She typically reads the newspaper on Saturdays (yes, the physical one…), magazines on healthy eating or celebrity ones like People.
Typically in the past when she’s tried to get into reading/into a book, she’d get MAYBE a chapter or two in, then never pick it up again. Anything I’d hand her and tell her she should read it would get a page or two in, then it would sit on a table by her bed for 6 months collecting dust.
The books the furthest she’s gone into have been non-fic, the most recent being Prince Harry’s Spare, and she made it almost half-way before losing interest.
She’s got it in her head she wants to bring a book to read while on vacation when she’s relaxing by the pool all day, because that’s what my dad will definitely be doing as a big reader himself.
Parameters: Nothing too romancey/spicey. Nothing horror/gore. No thrillers or true crime. No sci-fi or fantasy. Ideally something that is exciting enough to keep her interest (so I guess fast-paced?) but not something that’s going to make her think about sad awful life stuff like cancer, war.
Any suggestions? Anything I have is not what she’d want.
Edit to add: She’s in her 60s, if that’s helpful at all.
