This book is great and not what you expect. It’s not a ‘story” so much as a “loose autobiography” and a book about writing and having a literary life. It’s not for children, but can be enjoyed by young adults. Looking at the reviews on goodreads, everyone who gave it a 1 or 2 stars I don’t think understood what the book is, and expected more of “A series of unfortunate events.”
Anyway, if you are thinking about it, or haven’t heard about it, I would totally recommend it, but only if you A: are interested in Daniel Handler as a person/author, B: enjoy his writing or C: are or want to be a writer, or enjoy books about writing and literature.
