I haven’t read a fiction book since I left home and started uni when I was 18. I used to love reading as a teenager.

    My favourites I can remember:

    • The Hunger Games

    • The Lord of the Rings books

    • Disc World books (Particularly Mort and Reaper Man)

    • Percy Jackson books

    • Gone series (Michael Grant)

Obviously tastes will have matured or changed a bit by now. I also am not a fan of ongoing series because of needing to wait for the next release, I would much rather the series has concluded already or the book is a one off. I’m okay with a series if the stories are only loosely connected and are self contained in each book.

Amber Chronicles by Roger Zelazny. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Narnia and Dark Materials. Malazan series by Steve Erikson. Tad Willliams Memory, Sorrow and Thorn, Otherland and Shadow series. These will occupy you for 2 years at least.

    2. Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez is a phenomenal supernatural horror. Scary AF with a shadow-dark magic cult.

It’s a bigger book (around 600 pages) but reads like a series as the book is broken up into “parts”.

I don’t generally read horror but this was one of the best books I read in the last 6 months.

    3. Riyria Revelations series by Michael J Sullivan is my number one fantasy recommendation, it’s fun and the characters are fantastic. If you want something that feels a little darker The Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch.
