Hi everyone!
The last 4-5 months I have tried to get back into reading (read the first 3 Harry Potter, Britney Spear’s book, and a few other random fictions).
I find I get discouraged to read, mainly because it takes me a long time (I do have anxiety/adhd) so it takes me a little longer to read or understand than the average person.
The biggest issue I have is after I complete one of these books, I literally forget EVERYTHING. Like I just read the third Harry Potter and finished in December and I literally don’t even remember the ending or some major chunks?!!
How do you stay committed to reading and actually remember the material?
Thanks 📚

1. I stay committed by reading good books. There’s a lot of interesting art out there, and I want to read as much of it as I can.
2. I don’t really “remember.” I don’t read for the purposes of remembering. I read for the pleasure and the experience. I don’t remember the lyrics to all the albums I hear. A book is more than its plot details. It’s not homework.
On apps like Apple Music, there are play lists designed for studying. I find it easier to read when I’m quieting the other part of my mind.
Stay committed by reading things you find interesting. Either about subjects you already enjoy, or maybe just a back cover synopsis that intrigued you.
As for remembering? Not important. You read to experience a story in the moment. You’ll remember what you’re supposed to remember, and you’ll reread the books that are worth remembering.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Read in a way that’s comfortable for you, and read things that bring you enjoyment. That’s all that matters. The remembering and whatever else will take care of itself.
Have you tried audiobooks?
