We’re going to be doing one of those 18 hour drives in a few months. The kid and the wife are big fans of listening to books so I thought it might be a fun way to pass some of the drive time.
Wife and kid have read books 1-3 of Harry Potter a few times. I think 7 is a bit too young for book 4 (Triwizard tournament and whatnot) which is why they stop after book 3.
Magic, Star Wars, science fiction are our kind of thing.
Thanks!

Castle Hangnail by Ursula Vernon
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. A favorite of mine from childhood. I’m listening to the audiobook now and it’s still great!
A Heros Guide to Saving the Kingdom by Christopher Healy and the sequels.
Pratchett’s *The Wee Free Men*
Heroine is 9, and the Feegles are a delight – I’d imagine the accents would be a *lot* of fun out loud
[Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/51da4742-ca09-4638-9c93-f13440bff12b) by Jessica Townsend and [Sal and Gabi Break the Universe](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/55ec8314-b506-45e4-9114-43834c4c962a) are two of my favorite books, and both have excellent audiobooks! Maybe listen to the first few minutes of each to see if they feel like a good fit for your kiddo?
We loved A Royal guide to Monster Slaying
Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman (I can’t speak to the audiobook, but I recently read the book with my kid and it’s great for both kids and adults).
Greenglass House by Kate Milford
Eva Evergreen, Semi-Magical Witch by Julie Abe, Amari and the Night Brothers by BB Alston, and The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo were all big hits when my kid was 7. They also got VERY into The Swifts by Beth Lincoln, but that is a mystery rather than magic.
The Percy Jackson audio books are well done.
Loved the Redwall books when I was that age.
My uncle bought us the tape set of The Hobbit audio book in the 90s… I remember listening to it on a road trip to the beach!!
The very nearly honorable league of pirates!
Bunicula
Maybe the Golden Compass?
Beverly Cleary
