Don Winslow is the master. The cartel books are awesome and The Force about NY elite narcotics squad is even better.
Dennis Lehane is also very good.

Keigo Higashino. Japanese author and a lot of his work aren’t available in English but the ones that are available in English are cream of the crop among his works.

Ken Bruen, Irish author his two main series are either set in London, England or Galway, Ireland.
The books tend towards the more graphic end of the spectrum, the Detective Brant series set in London is a little more upbeat with black humour throughout than the Galway series, and the main character Brant, is a bigger asshole than some of those he’s after.
Bruen has a punchy writing style in the Brant series – which I think is in part to represent his character’s perspective. And it works.
For a taste of Bruen’s style and other authors there was a great collection “Invisible Blood” with short stories from 17 thriller/detective authors using their famous characters, including Lee Child with Reacher and Ken Bruen. A solid collection if you want a taster of a writer’s style.

Anything by Dennis Lehane, his Kenzie Gennaro series is especially good, starting with A Drink Before The War.
