Have you read the silence of the lambs ? Its more of a crime and psychological thriller, I finished the book within 3 – 4 days while travelling last week. Kept me hooked throughout.

I will always suggest the Prey series by John Sandford, it chronicles the career arc of Lucas Davenport of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He’s a cop who does things his way to catch some ruthless criminals and the themes can be dark, ranging from murder, rape, kidnapping, violent drug rage, torture etc. Also the arc has him dealing not only with criminal element but growing family demands and political trappings of the job. The first four books are a bit clunky since it was the starting point but I would start at Winter Prey and go forward. These are good books to me and I have read all the better ones multiple times and they are still engaging. There are more to this list than what I listed and may appeal more to a male POV FWIW.
