    1. Some of the big names right now:

Madeline Miller- Tiktok queen, wrote “Song of Achilles” and “Circe”. Praised for the tenderness of her writing, but can sometimes drag on

Jennifer Saint- narratives about specific female figures. “Atalanta” “Ariadne” “Elektra”, etc.

Pat Baker- “The Silence of the Girls” and “The Women of Troy” are a behind-the-scenes look at the Greek camp in The Iliad, and retellings of The Trojan Women

Natalie Haynes- writes fiction and very accessible non-fiction. “Children of Jocasta” is particularly clever. “Stone Blind” is about Medusa. “A Thousand Ships” is a collection of short bits about different female mythological figures and pairs well with the nonfiction “Pandora’s Box”.

      Others:

“Achilles” by Elizabeth Cook- probably the best Troy retelling on this list

“the Penelopaid” by Margaret Atwood- Penelope’s story

“The Song of Penelope” series by Clair North- Penelope again

“The Goddess” by Miranda Seymour- Helen-focused story

“Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow” series by David Gemmell- heroic fantasy, minimal magic

“The King Must Die” and “Bull from the Sea” by Mary Renault- Theseus

“Last of the Amazons” by Steven Pressfield- Theseus again

“Alcestis” by Katharine Beautner- story of a wife famous for dying, best for “Song of Achilles” fans.
