So, today is a big day. There are people in the World waiting for The Winds of Winter, some are waiting for The Gentlemen Bastards and others are waiting for the Kingkiller to get on with killing a king.
But I have waited for Red Side Story or Shades of Grey 2 by Jasper Fforde
12 years. 12 YEARS! and today it has arrived.
For those of you unfamiliar Shades of Grey is a whimsical dystopia set in a world where “something happened” and the current Caste system is based on an individual’s ability to see colour.
There’s a certain Ealing Comedy vibe about it to begin with but there’s definitely something lurking beneath the surface. I’ll say no more.
The first book ended with an explicit xx and xx will return and then “something happened” the book did not hit. Maybe it was just that hit weirder and darker than the author’s other work. But over time as people discovered the book, perhaps by accident looking for some casual smut, the clamour for a sequel grew.
And finally here we are.
Anyone else as excited as I am?
