I’m currently writing a book set in rural Louisiana, but unfortunately have never been there and will likely never be able to afford to go. Instead I’m trying to read as many books as I can set in/around the rural south to get a better idea of the culture and setting. It’s based in a fictional town so I’m really just looking for books that focus on atmosphere and accurately depict modern southern customs/dialect/mindsets. Basically the little details I can pick up that won’t make it so obvious I’ve never been to Louisiana.
I’ve read The Little Friend (Mississipi), To Kill a Mockingbird (Alabama) and Sharp Objects (Missouri), but I can’t think of any about Louisiana.
Are there any books you found accurate to living in the south?
