i stopped reading in 2020 when the pandemic happened and just lost all the spark with books (sold them all), but now, i want to go back to reading and my attention span is no longer as good as back then when i am able to finish a book in one seating.

i want to ask for book recos that are short (500 pages max) that i can start with.

i was into historical fiction, highschool romance, sad books (idk what genre they are), reincarnation, time travel, but they are all romance related. still, open to other suggestions! thank you!

    2. John Steinbeck! His big novels are longer than 500 pages, but he has many other books that are smaller and wonderful.

Might not be your thing but there’s a book called Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth. It’s Irish, so not technically “high school romance” but it’s that age group, so I guess technically YA. It’s about a girl who pushes this other girl who she “hates” down the stairs as a favour to her, and she ends up doing odd favours for all these other kids at school in return for them owing her a favour. All the while she’s dealing with a alcoholic mother at home and is basically dealing with all these other problems to avoid dealing with her own. There’s a little romance between her and the girl she pushes down the stairs, there’s some nice new friendships, and there’s a side plot about a toxic friendship and moving away from relationships that aren’t good for you, and learning to ask for and accept help.

As I said It’s technically YA but I thought it dealt with its themes in a lot more depth than YA books usually do, and it’s a really easy read. I read it all in one day. It’s funny and sweet and got me out of a reading slump when I read it.
